About this site

Updated

This site is published by the team behind Avalon Magic Plants, a smartshop in the Netherlands that sells, among many other things, Hawaiian baby woodrose seeds as botanical specimens. The product links on these pages go to that shop. When you buy through such a link, we earn from the sale.

We put this first because it matters for how you read the rest. Much of what is online about these seeds is shop copy, forum lore or both, and some of it repeats health claims that have no basis. We wanted one place that sets out what is actually known, with sources, including the findings that do not help sales: that a Dutch government institute judged the use of these seeds unsafe, that seed strength cannot be predicted, and that LSA is a controlled drug in several countries.

How the information is put together

  • Facts about the plant come from botanical sources and government fact sheets. Facts about the alkaloids and their effects come from peer-reviewed studies and from the 2020 risk assessment by the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), which reviewed 45 publications. Each page links to what it uses.
  • Legal information comes from the law texts themselves where we could read them, and otherwise from the RIVM report. The legal page states the date on which it was checked and says where we could not verify something.
  • We give no doses and no preparation or extraction methods. The research shows that seed content and individual reactions vary too much for a dose table to mean anything.
  • When something is unknown, or we could not confirm it in a reliable source, we say so or leave it out.
  • We publish no testimonials, reviews or invented experiences.
  • We make no medical or health claims of any kind.

Every page shows when it was last updated. Laws, research and products change. If something here is out of date or wrong, Avalon's customer service can pass it on to us.
